Fun in the Snow

Arriving at the airport in Bucharest on January 21st it was if I had never left England, the weather was freezing and the snow was falling heavily. I was pleased to see my friend Daniel who is the director of FAST. Mission to Eastern Europe has been working alongside this Romanian charity. With Daniel were his wife Ema and their four children it was a great welcoming party. After a three hour drive through the snow covered mountains we arrived at Daniels apartment in Sacele where it was wonderful to relax after all the travelling I had done that day. Following a good night’s sleep and a large breakfast we went to Kidland the headquarters of FAST after a short visit I took Daniel and his family ice-skating in Brasov it was very cold -5 degrees in spite of the cold we all had a great time.

Catch Up With Technology

On the Monday we visited the village of Zizin to deliver some computers to the village school, they had been donated by Helsby High School in England they were a very welcome addition to the education of the children. After helping to install the computers in a freshly decorated classroom we left the teachers showing the children how to use them. In this day and age it is difficult to believe that most of the children had never seen a computer before.

New Stove for Old

In Zizin I visited a family with six children the youngest was just four months old, they lived cramped in one small room. As I entered the house a sight literally brought tears to my eyes in the corner of the room stood an old wood burning stove, I was told it was eighty years old smoke came out every were but up the chimney hence the tears, the baby was in great discomfort for inhaling the smoke, some thing had to be done, so it was off to Brasov to find a hardware store to purchase a new stove. It was great to see the change in that room after the new stove had been fitted; within a short time the room was clear.

A clean and safe area for cooking and keeping warm is just another of those things we in our comfortable environment take for granted.
